A growing debate about changing lifestyles among young people has resurfaced after actress and screenwriter Nyambo Jessica shared her views on what she sees as a worrying trend among some young men today.
Speaking in an interview with ISIMBI, Nyambo said she has observed that a significant number of young men are becoming increasingly focused on personal appearance and comfort while paying less attention to building careers, creating income opportunities, and preparing for the future.
While emphasizing that she was not referring to all young men, Nyambo argued that many spend considerable time maintaining their looks despite having no stable source of income or meaningful economic activity.
According to her, some behaviors that were traditionally associated with women are now being embraced by young men to the extent that it has become difficult to distinguish priorities between personal grooming and economic responsibility.
She stated, “Nowadays, you find some young men whom it is difficult to distinguish from women because they do things that used to be considered women’s work, yet they ignore the responsibility of earning a living and preparing for their future life.”
Nyambo believes that a man should constantly think about personal growth, career development, and financial stability. In her view, work and entrepreneurship should remain central priorities for anyone hoping to establish a secure future.
She added, “A man should always think about his development, look for a job, or engage in projects that advance him, so that he will be able to build a family for himself that is free from the problems of poverty.”
Her comments have sparked discussions about evolving gender norms and lifestyle choices among younger generations. Supporters of her perspective argue that some young men have become overly concerned with appearance and social image at the expense of long-term personal and financial development.
Nyambo also questioned why certain young men spend long hours in beauty salons and grooming facilities despite lacking productive activities that generate income.
She remarked, “It is incomprehensible how some young men spend many hours in the salon grooming themselves even more than some women, yet they have no tangible activities to help them earn money.”
The discussion highlights a broader societal conversation about balancing self-care with responsibility. While many people believe that grooming and personal presentation are important for everyone regardless of gender, others argue that economic productivity and future planning should remain key priorities.
As social norms continue to evolve, Nyambo Jessica’s remarks have reignited debate about the expectations placed on young men, the role of ambition in modern society, and the importance of preparing for a stable and prosperous future.
