Rwanda national team head coach Stephen Constantine has unveiled a 24-man squad for the upcoming international friendlies in Morocco, with former Manchester United youngster Noam Emeran earning his first-ever call-up to the Amavubi setup.
The highly anticipated inclusion of Emeran has generated excitement among Rwandan football fans, especially given his development in European football and his previous experience within Manchester United’s youth system before joining Groningen FC in the Netherlands.
Emeran also carries a strong football connection to Rwanda, as he is the son of former Amavubi player Fritz Emeran Nkusi, who represented the national team years ago.
Rwanda will face Comoros national football team on June 6 before taking on Tanzania national football team on June 9 in Morocco. The matches are part of the team’s preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers scheduled to begin later this year.
While Emeran’s arrival grabbed headlines, several notable names were left out of the squad. Defender Manzi Thierry and brothers Joy-Lance Mickels and Leroy Jacques Mickels were unavailable due to injuries.
Midfielder Hakim Sahabo was also omitted, with reports indicating that his limited playing time at AEK Athens influenced the decision.
Local clubs remain heavily represented in the squad, with APR FC contributing six players, the highest number from any Rwandan side. Rayon Sports, Police FC, Marine FC and Kiyovu Sports also have players included in the team.
One of the other fresh faces is striker Uwiyaremye Fidali, who received his first senior national team invitation following impressive performances at club level.
The squad also features experienced foreign-based players such as Mutsinzi Ange, Mugisha Bonheur, Djihad Bizimana and Samuel Gueulette, all expected to play a major role during the friendly matches.
Attention will now shift to how the new-look Amavubi side performs in Morocco, especially with supporters eager to see Noam Emeran make his debut in Rwanda’s national colors.
