Prosecutors in Gasabo District are investigating a 25-year-old woman accused of attempting to kill her husband by allegedly lacing his alcoholic drink with Super Glue in a case that has drawn public attention in northern Kigali.
The alleged incident occurred on June 9, 2026, in Rutunga Sector, Kigabiro Cell, Rwintare Village. According to prosecution reports, the suspect purchased alcohol, mixed it with Super Glue, and then offered it to her husband with the intention that he would consume it.
However, the husband reportedly became suspicious after noticing an unusual change in the drink’s color. He chose not to drink it, a decision that ultimately prevented what authorities describe as a potentially life-threatening incident.
Statements released through the Prosecutor General’s Office indicate that during questioning, the suspect admitted to the act.
She reportedly explained that her intention was to kill her husband due to ongoing domestic conflict, particularly his refusal to relocate from their residence. She added that the couple had previously lost three children in the same area, which she cited as part of the emotional background to the dispute.
Authorities are prosecuting the case under attempted commission of poisoning-related offenses, as provided for under Articles 21 and 110 of Law No. 68/2018 of 30/08/2018 governing crimes and penalties in general in Rwanda.
Investigations are still ongoing as judicial authorities continue to compile the case file before it is submitted to court for further proceedings.
Legal observers note that even attempted acts, when supported by clear intent and preparatory actions, can constitute a prosecutable offense under Rwandan criminal law.
