The High Court of Gasabo has sentenced a 45-year-old woman to life imprisonment after finding her guilty of murdering her husband, who was found dead at their home with a cloth tied around his neck.
The ruling was delivered this week in a case concerning the death that occurred on April 30, 2026, in Mukoma Village, Nyabagendwa Cell, Rilima Sector, Bugesera District.
Husband found dead at home
According to information released by the National Public Prosecution Authority, the incident occurred at around 9 p.m., when the woman’s husband was found dead on a bed at their home.
The man had a cloth tied around his neck, prompting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
Prosecutors subsequently brought the case against his wife, alleging that she had killed him by strangling him with the cloth.
Court convicts woman of murder
After hearing the case, the High Court of Gasabo found the accused guilty of murder.
The court sentenced her to life imprisonment under Article 107 of Law No. 68/2018 of August 30, 2018, relating to offences and penalties in general.
The sentence followed the court’s consideration of the evidence presented during the proceedings concerning the death of the accused woman’s husband.
Murder occurred in Bugesera
The incident took place in Mukoma Village, Nyabagendwa Cell, Rilima Sector, Bugesera District.
The husband was found dead at the couple’s home on the night of April 30, 2026, with a cloth tied around his neck.
The prosecution pursued the case against the woman until the High Court of Gasabo delivered its verdict this week.

Life imprisonment is among the most severe penalties available under Rwanda’s criminal law for serious offences involving the unlawful taking of life.
In this case, the High Court convicted the 45-year-old woman of murder and imposed a life sentence under Article 107 of Law No. 68/2018.
