A public dispute involving Ugandan music icon Bebe Cool and former Miss Rwanda Jolly Mutesi has entered a new phase after the singer called on Rwandan President Paul Kagame to support an investigation into allegations he has repeatedly made against the beauty queen.
The controversy has dominated conversations across social media in Rwanda and Uganda since Bebe Cool first claimed that he had been deceived by someone he believes was Jolly Mutesi. According to the singer, the alleged scheme involved references to Rwanda and English football club Arsenal, creating what he believed to be a legitimate opportunity.
When the allegations first surfaced, Bebe Cool asserted that the person behind the arrangement had used Mutesi’s identity and had successfully gained his trust. His comments immediately sparked intense debate, with supporters demanding evidence while others questioned whether the singer had actually fallen victim to an impersonation network.
Jolly Mutesi responded by firmly rejecting the accusations. She argued that fraudsters may have used her name and image without her knowledge and urged the singer to verify facts before making public statements that could damage another person’s reputation.
As the debate intensified, Bebe Cool released additional material that he described as evidence. Among the information shared publicly was a telephone number he claimed was connected to Mutesi. He also alleged that other individuals had experienced similar incidents and suggested that financial transactions may have involved contacts operating from Uganda.
The singer further claimed that conversations between him and the individual involved focused largely on opportunities related to his son’s football development, which helped establish trust over time.
On June 17, 2026, Bebe Cool raised the stakes by directly appealing to President Kagame. He argued that the allegations, if proven true, could negatively affect Rwanda’s image and therefore deserved official attention.
Meanwhile, Jolly Mutesi has maintained her innocence. She insists that she has been a victim of identity misuse and points to an individual identified as Akankwasa Mutesi Jolly, whom she says has previously impersonated her and allegedly targeted multiple people. According to Mutesi, warnings about that individual had already been communicated in the past.
Despite the growing publicity surrounding the dispute, no law enforcement agency in either Rwanda or Uganda has publicly confirmed the launch of a formal investigation. Details concerning the amount of money allegedly lost, as well as the exact promises connected to Arsenal, also remain unclear.
The case continues to attract widespread public interest because it combines celebrity status, allegations of fraud, questions of identity theft, and cross-border implications. With Bebe Cool promising further evidence and Jolly Mutesi standing by her denials, attention is now turning toward whether independent investigations or additional disclosures will finally establish what truly happened.
