“Another weapon is coming” – Rayon Sports president teases two major signings

Rayon Sports president Murenzi Abdallah has revealed that the club is preparing to announce two more signings, with the pair expected to strengthen the squad ahead of the 2026/27 season and upcoming continental competition.

The two players are understood to operate in midfield and attack respectively. Their arrival would give the coaching staff additional options in areas the club identified as requiring reinforcement after the CECAFA Kagame Cup 2026.

Murenzi indicated that the club had identified three areas requiring additional strength after the regional tournament. One player has already been announced, while the remaining two are expected to be unveiled on Friday, August 14, 2026, or shortly afterwards.

He said: “Rayon fans should be ready because today there is another nuclear weapon, and there is another one we could add today or tomorrow.”

Deals are reportedly already completed

According to Murenzi, the remaining work is largely administrative rather than related to negotiations with the players.

“What remains is to announce them. Everything else important has been completed, and the people responsible are working on registering them alongside their teammates,” he said.

The comments suggest that Rayon Sports is moving into the final stage of integrating the two players into its squad, with the club looking to build sufficient depth for a demanding competitive schedule.

The new additions would also increase the number of options available to the coaching staff in midfield and attack, two positions that can be decisive in both domestic and continental football.

CECAFA helped identify squad needs

Rayon Sports’ recruitment plans come after an impressive CECAFA Kagame Cup campaign in which the club won all five of its matches without suffering defeat.

The tournament provided the technical and management teams with an opportunity to assess the squad against strong regional opposition. The subsequent decision to reinforce three positions indicates that the club is using the competition as part of its broader squad-building process.

One defensive player has already been unveiled, while the next two additions are expected to address midfield and attacking options.

For a club preparing to compete on multiple fronts, increasing squad depth could prove particularly important as the season progresses and the number of domestic and continental fixtures increases.

Drissa Kouyaté in discussions over his future

While Rayon Sports is preparing to welcome new players, the club is also dealing with uncertainty surrounding the future of goalkeeper Drissa Kouyaté.

Murenzi said Kouyaté had indicated that he was unlikely to receive sufficient playing time, prompting discussions between the two sides over a possible separation.

The situation remains subject to an agreement between the player and the club, with both parties reportedly discussing the appropriate way to end their relationship.

Financial obligations remain a challenge

Murenzi also acknowledged that Rayon Sports still owes money to several players, particularly in relation to transfers completed during the previous season.

The president said the club was working to ensure that available funds could also be directed towards settling those outstanding obligations.

The financial issue comes as Rayon Sports continues to strengthen its squad, meaning the club must balance recruitment ambitions with its existing financial commitments.

Rayon Sports building momentum ahead of 2026/27

Rayon Sports enters the new season with significant momentum after winning the CECAFA Kagame Cup without losing any of its five matches.

The club has also remained unbeaten in its pre-season matches so far, adding to expectations surrounding its preparations for the 2026/27 campaign.

The planned arrival of two more players could further strengthen the squad before its continental commitments begin.

For Rayon Sports supporters, however, the immediate focus is likely to be on the identities of the two players behind Murenzi’s “nuclear weapon” description. Their eventual unveiling will provide a clearer indication of how the club intends to shape its squad for the new season.
