Alan Shearer’s Bold Warning: Arsenal Look Unstoppable in Europe – But One Giant Still Stands in Their Way

Arsenal are flying. Week after week, they are sending a clear message to Europe that this team is no longer learning, no longer rebuilding, and no longer afraid. With a perfect record in the Champions League this season and total control in the Premier League, many fans are starting to ask the same question: is this finally Arsenal’s year?

The Gunners have won all seven of their Champions League matches so far, a 100 per cent record that has turned heads across the continent. Their latest victory, a powerful 3-1 win away to Inter Milan, last season’s runners-up, was more than just another three points. It was a statement. It showed maturity, belief, and the ability to win in one of Europe’s most difficult stadiums.

That win guaranteed Arsenal a top-two finish in the league phase. This is huge under UEFA’s new Champions League rules. It means Arsenal are already qualified for the last 16 and will have home advantage in the second leg of every knockout tie. In Europe, that advantage can decide everything.

Next Wednesday, Mikel Arteta’s side host Kairat of Kazakhstan. If Arsenal win again, they will make it eight wins from eight, something no club has achieved since the Champions League was revamped in 2024. History is within reach, and confidence inside the squad is growing by the game.

Former England captain and Premier League legend Alan Shearer believes Arsenal are very close to doing something special. Speaking before the Inter Milan match, he made it clear how highly he rates this team.
“There is no doubt that this mob tonight, Arsenal, have got a really good chance of being there,” Shearer told Amazon Prime prior to Arsenal’s win.

However, Shearer also delivered a warning that Arsenal fans cannot ignore. In his view, there is one team that could stop them at the final hurdle.
“But I just think because of what PSG did last year, the players that they have, I’m just going to edge it with PSG. But Arsenal won’t be far away.”

Shearer later doubled down on his prediction and even named his dream final.
“Probably Arsenal,” the ex-Newcastle United striker added. “I think with the confidence and the belief that Arsenal have.

“And you’ve seen with the turnover of players in terms of the squad that he can leave on the squad and they still look a very, very strong team and a team capable of coming and winning here tonight [at Inter]. That will certainly help them in the moments ahead so, yeah, PSG and Arsenal [as favourites].”

Paris Saint-Germain, the defending champions, have not had everything their own way this season. On Tuesday, they lost 2-1 away to Sporting Lisbon, their second defeat of the league phase. Depending on results, PSG could even miss out on automatic qualification and be forced into the play-offs again.

Last season, those play-offs actually helped PSG build momentum. They grew stronger with each round and eventually knocked Arsenal out in the semi-finals. That memory still hurts for Arsenal supporters, and it adds extra weight to Shearer’s prediction.

Luis Enrique’s side now face Newcastle in their final league-phase match and will want to finish strongly after conceding a late goal against Sporting. Even when PSG struggle, they remain dangerous, packed with quality and big-game experience.

Yet Arsenal are no longer the young, fragile team of previous seasons. Under Mikel Arteta, they have grown into arguably the most complete team in Europe. They are top of both the Premier League and the Champions League tables, and they look comfortable in both competitions.

Arteta has built a squad with depth, balance, and character. Arsenal recently beat Inter Milan away and are now also top of Serie A’s strongest challengers. Earlier in the season, they smashed Bayern Munich at the Emirates, dominating the best team in Germany and outplaying Harry Kane and his teammates for 45 breathtaking minutes.

They have also won away at Athletic Bilbao and knocked out Real Madrid last year on their run to the semi-finals. That experience has clearly helped them this season. Arsenal now know what it takes to compete at the highest level in Europe.

Defensively, they are one of the strongest teams in the world. William Saliba and Gabriel have formed a rock-solid partnership, while David Raya has been outstanding in goal. In midfield, Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi have controlled games with intelligence and power, giving Arsenal stability and rhythm.

Bukayo Saka continues to shine on the biggest stage, proving again and again that he is a player for big moments. Goals were once a concern, but Gabriel Jesus and Viktor Gyokeres both delivered against Inter Milan, easing fears in attack. Kai Havertz is also returning from injury, adding another option.

Bookmakers now see Arsenal as favourites to win the Champions League. No team in Europe wants to face them, especially with the second leg always at the Emirates. The only truly dangerous draw might be another English club, where emotions and intensity can turn matches into chaos.

Still, many believe the Premier League remains the real priority. Arsenal are seven points clear at the top, dominating the hardest league in the world. Winning the title would end a 22-year wait and finally break the painful pattern of finishing runners-up three seasons in a row.

That mental barrier matters. The Champions League can involve luck, moments, and fine margins. History shows that teams who dominate domestically often go on to conquer Europe. Even Arsène Wenger’s Invincibles did not win the Champions League, despite being the best team of their era.

If Arsenal lift the Premier League trophy this season, it could open the door to a period of dominance under Arteta. From there, Europe may follow naturally. For now, the belief is real, the football is powerful, and the message is clear.

Arsenal are ready. The only question left is whether Paris Saint-Germain will once again be the final obstacle standing between the Gunners and European glory.
