Rwanda and France Deepen Military Cooperation as Maj Gen Nyakarundi Meets Gen Pierre Schill in Paris

Rwanda and France have taken another step toward strengthening their military partnership following a high-level meeting between Rwanda’s Land Force Commander, Maj Gen Vincent Nyakarundi, and his French counterpart, Gen Pierre Schill, during the Eurosatory 2026 international defense exhibition in Paris.

The meeting brought together two senior military leaders at one of the world’s most influential defense and security events, providing an opportunity to review existing cooperation and explore new areas of collaboration between the armed forces of both countries.

Discussions focused on expanding military cooperation, enhancing professional exchanges, and reinforcing the strategic relationship that has continued to grow between Rwanda and France in recent years. The talks also highlighted the importance of international partnerships in addressing evolving global security challenges.

Eurosatory 2026 serves as a major gathering point for military leaders, defense manufacturers, security experts, policymakers, and government representatives from across the globe. The exhibition showcases the latest innovations in land defense, air defense, security technologies, and military equipment.

First launched in 1967, Eurosatory has become one of the most significant defense exhibitions worldwide. Held every two years in Paris, it offers a platform for governments, armed forces, and private-sector innovators to exchange ideas, build partnerships, and present cutting-edge technologies designed to improve security and defense capabilities.

This year’s edition, which opened on June 15, 2026, runs for five days and has attracted more than 2,100 exhibitors from 65 countries. In addition, over 330 official delegations representing 93 nations are participating in discussions aimed at strengthening international cooperation in defense and security matters.

One of the major highlights of Eurosatory 2026 is the presentation of more than 500 newly developed defense and security solutions. These innovations range from advanced surveillance systems and protective technologies to artificial intelligence applications and modern equipment designed to enhance operational effectiveness.

Beyond showcasing technology, the event also serves as a forum for addressing some of the most pressing security concerns facing the international community. Participants are discussing issues such as armed conflicts, terrorism, transnational crime, border security, and the growing role of emerging technologies in modern defense strategies.

The meeting between Maj Gen Nyakarundi and Gen Schill comes at a time when relations between Rwanda and France continue to expand across multiple sectors, including security, education, justice, diplomacy, and economic development.

Last month, the two countries signed two new cooperation agreements. The deals focus on migration-related collaboration and measures designed to make it easier for family members of diplomatic personnel serving abroad to access employment opportunities in the host country.

Security analysts view military engagements of this nature as essential for building trust, sharing expertise, and improving the capacity of armed forces to respond to increasingly complex security threats. Such interactions also contribute to broader diplomatic relations and long-term strategic cooperation.

Maj Gen Nyakarundi’s participation in Eurosatory 2026 and his discussions with Gen Schill underscore Rwanda’s commitment to strengthening international partnerships and working closely with global allies to promote security, stability, and sustainable peace.
