How Gen. Muhoozi Defused the Bebe Cool–Jolly Mutesi Dispute Before It Reached Court

A rapidly escalating public dispute between Ugandan music star Bebe Cool and former Miss Rwanda Jolly Mutesi has come to an unexpected end after intervention from Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

For several days, the controversy dominated conversations across social media platforms in both Rwanda and Uganda, with accusations, legal threats, and public statements pushing the disagreement toward what appeared to be an inevitable courtroom battle.

The dispute began after Bebe Cool, whose real name is Moses Ssali, publicly alleged that he had been deceived in a financial arrangement connected to opportunities involving English football club Arsenal. According to the singer, the events traced back to an encounter in London during a trip linked to a football match involving Arsenal and Manchester United in 2025.

Believing he was communicating with Jolly Mutesi, Bebe Cool claimed he transferred substantial sums of money after receiving assurances related to opportunities for his child. As doubts emerged about the authenticity of those promises, the singer took to X, formerly Twitter, accusing Mutesi of orchestrating the scheme.

His posts included references to WhatsApp conversations and other materials he described as evidence supporting his claims.

Jolly Mutesi firmly rejected the allegations. The former Miss Rwanda insisted she had never entered into any agreement with the Ugandan musician and suggested that criminals may have impersonated her identity to carry out the fraud.

The disagreement intensified when her legal representatives formally demanded that Bebe Cool remove the accusations and issue an apology within 48 hours or face legal proceedings.

Rather than backing down immediately, the singer initially signaled that he was prepared to defend his position in court, maintaining that he possessed sufficient evidence to support his allegations.

As public interest in the dispute grew, many observers expected the matter to proceed to litigation.

The turning point came when Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba personally contacted Bebe Cool.

According to the musician, the Ugandan military chief advised him to stop the public confrontation and seek a peaceful resolution away from social media. Bebe Cool later revealed that he accepted the advice and agreed to remove the controversial posts.

Shortly afterward, all of the accusations previously published on his X account disappeared.

The move dramatically changed the direction of the dispute and opened the door for a settlement outside the courts.

Within hours, Jolly Mutesi’s lawyers confirmed that they would not pursue the legal action they had been preparing.

In a statement issued by Mbidde & Co. Advocates on June 18, 2026, the legal team acknowledged that Bebe Cool had complied with the demands outlined in their earlier letter. They noted that he had removed the disputed content and engaged in communication with senior lawyer Dr. Fred Mukasa Mbidde.

As a result, the matter was considered resolved and no further legal proceedings would be initiated.

However, the lawyers emphasized that Mutesi’s legal rights remain protected and that future actions of a similar nature could trigger a fresh legal response.

The resolution has drawn attention not only because it prevented a potentially high-profile court case, but also because it highlighted Gen. Muhoozi’s influence beyond military affairs.

The Ugandan general has frequently expressed admiration for Jolly Mutesi on social media, and his intervention appears to have played a decisive role in bringing both sides back from the brink of a prolonged public and legal confrontation.

What began as a bitter online dispute involving accusations of fraud, reputational damage, and legal threats ultimately concluded through mediation, leaving observers with a reminder of how quickly social media conflicts can escalate, and how equally quickly they can be defused when influential figures step in to encourage dialogue.
