Breaking: Two Military Personnel Killed in Fighter Jet Crash During Training Mission

Two Royal Thai Air Force officers were killed after a military aircraft crashed into a remote forested area in northern Thailand on Thursday morning.

The plane, a Beechcraft AT-6 Wolverine built in the United States, was on a training mission when it went down around 10:30 a.m. local time. Video footage circulating online shows the wreckage still smoldering, with debris scattered across the forest floor and thick gray and white smoke rising above the trees.

The pilot and a gun operator aboard the aircraft were both killed in the crash. Emergency responders quickly arrived on the scene, secured the area, and extinguished the fire caused by the impact.

A Royal Thai Air Force spokesperson said that the identities of the deceased were still being confirmed and that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident.
“Officers and rescue teams are inspecting the wreckage and continuing their search. Further information will be released as it becomes available,” the spokesperson added, noting that the area has been closed for investigation in line with aviation safety standards.

Access to the crash site was difficult due to the mountainous and remote terrain. Authorities had to travel on foot with assistance from local residents to reach the location.

The Wing 41 Air Base in Chiang Mai received eight AT-6 Wolverine aircraft between 2024 and 2025. These light attack aircraft are used for air-to-ground missions, border surveillance, and reconnaissance operations, and were assigned to Squadron 411. The first two planes were delivered in July 2024, with the remaining six arriving throughout 2025. The aircraft were manufactured by Textron Aviation Defence LLC and imported from the U.S.

This tragic accident comes shortly after another deadly plane crash in Colombia, where an aircraft carrying 15 people, including a congressman, crashed on Wednesday, killing everyone on board. State-owned Satena Airlines confirmed the crash, expressing condolences to the families of the victims but did not provide details on the cause. The plane’s emergency beacon reportedly did not activate.

These incidents highlight ongoing concerns about aviation safety worldwide and underscore the importance of preventive measures and strict operational oversight in both military and civilian aviation.
