Matheus Cunha Faces Possible Ban After What He Did Moments After His Winning Goal vs Arsenal

Manchester United fans thought they were watching a perfect football moment at the Emirates Stadium. A late goal, a big celebration, and a player showing pure emotion. But now, that same moment could land Matheus Cunha in serious trouble.

Matheus Cunha scored a sensational goal to put Manchester United 3-2 up against Arsenal in a dramatic Premier League clash. The strike came after a thrilling second half where both teams pushed hard for victory.

United were already in a tense battle when Mikel Merino made it 2-2 for Arsenal. The game felt like it could go either way, and the pressure inside the stadium was huge.

Cunha came off the bench for Michael Carrick’s side and made an instant impact. After a brilliant move involving Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo, the Brazilian forward curled the ball into the bottom corner with great confidence.

The goal silenced the home crowd and sent the travelling Manchester United fans into wild celebrations. Cunha ran straight towards them, clearly full of emotion and adrenaline.

That is when the moment turned controversial. As he celebrated near the corner, Cunha grabbed a television camera and shouted something directly into the lens.

What he said was not fully clear, but it did include explicit language. The moment was broadcast live on television, meaning millions of viewers saw and heard the outburst.

Sky Sports commentator Peter Drury was quickly forced to respond on air. He said: “If you heard some bad language in among the celebrations, for that we apologise.”

The apology made it clear that the language used was not suitable for live TV. It also raised immediate questions about whether Cunha could now face punishment from the Football Association.

According to FA rules, “offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures” can result in a player being sent off. The rules also allow the FA to take action after a match if the incident is clearly caught on camera.

Swearing directly into a camera is seen as a “clear and deliberate” act of misconduct. The FA considers this kind of behavior as something that brings the game into disrepute.

This is not the first time English football has seen a case like this. Back in 2011, Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney faced a similar situation.

Rooney was given a two-match ban after swearing directly into a camera during a match against West Ham United. The incident happened during a 4-2 win at Upton Park.

The Football Association punished Rooney heavily, even though he had just completed a hat-trick. He was charged with “use of offensive, insulting and/or abusive language.”

Rooney later spoke openly about how the punishment affected him. In a statement released through his spokesman, he said: “I am gutted to miss two matches, one of which is an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley.”

He also defended himself by saying: “I am not the first player to have sworn on TV and I won’t be the last.”

Rooney pointed out what he felt was unfair treatment. He added: “Unlike others who have been caught swearing on camera, I apologised immediately. And yet I am the only person banned for swearing. That doesn’t seem right.”

Despite his frustration, Rooney accepted the decision. He said: “Whatever, I have to accept that what’s happened has happened and move on from here. That is what I intend to do.”

Now, Matheus Cunha could be facing a similar situation. With the incident clearly broadcast and widely shared online, the FA may feel pressure to act.

Manchester United fans are split on the issue. Some believe Cunha was simply showing passion in a high-pressure moment. Others worry that the FA will not ignore such a public incident.

If Cunha is charged, a ban could mean missing key matches at an important stage of the season. It would be a big blow for United, especially after his decisive impact against Arsenal.

For now, the club and the player wait. One moment of brilliance has turned into a moment of uncertainty, and the football world is watching closely to see what happens next.
